A Volcano That Never Sleeps

Villarrica is one of only 16 active volcanoes in Chile, and the only one you can ski from.

Villarrica rises dramatically from the Araucanía Region, its summit perpetually shrouded in clouds and steam. For centuries, indigenous Mapuche people have revered this sacred peak as the dwelling place of their creator god, Ngen Chepi.

Today, the volcano's glow is visible from space, and visitors can watch steam and ash rise from its crater rim. The contrast between the volcanic activity and the pristine snow on its slopes creates one of the most striking natural spectacles in South America.

Thermal Sanctuaries

After a day of adventure, unwind in the region's natural hot springs.

Fueled by the same volcanic heat that makes Villarrica glow, these mineral-rich thermal waters offer therapeutic benefits that have attracted visitors for generations. The warm pools contrast beautifully with the crisp mountain air.

Local families have built private hot springs along the volcanic terrain, creating a unique geothermal landscape where nature's power meets human ingenuity.

Skiing on an Active Volcano

Villarrica ski resort offers Chile's longest operating season, from July to October.

Villarrica ski resort sits at the foot of the active volcano, offering 36 trails across 800 hectares of pristine snow. The ski season runs from July to October, making it one of the longest-operating ski resorts in the Southern Hemisphere.

The unique volcanic terrain creates microclimates that keep the snow pristine and dry, even on days when other resorts are closing early. Expert skiers challenge themselves on steep, technical runs that hug the volcano's slopes.
